Working harder than a two bit whore
Feb. 3rd, 2004 11:36 amAnd how sad would that be? One's services for a quarter? That just sucks, pardon the pun.
I'm rewriting the first chapter of Blue Eyes and have written another scene as well as plotted out more of the sequel. I'm going to hold off on writing it until the first one's done, but it's helping me reshape. I like that, the process, the rewrite and edit and the re-examination of the material, how it forms into something different under the bending pressure of distance and other hands.
I want to give a huge shoutout of Whoo Hoo to the people running The Sparky's for the, to paraphrase , "Why the Hell Didn't You Vote For These Fics, People?" category. Because Hinterlands and Simplicity in Spades both should be getting far more recognition and didn't. It makes me itchy and arch because the writing should be recognized and I'm very, very glad that the Cass and Jeff did so in a public forum, not as a rebuke to the voters, but as real recognition.
There are other fics I feel the same way about, but this is a lovely start. And while I'm definitely blushing and simpering with pleasure at the recognition, and make no mistake about it, I am. Pride and vanity are high among my sins, misplaced as they may be, I'm also embarrassed to be in some of the categories. Because there are other writers who really should be there instead.
I highly enjoyed the questioning meme, and was thrilled with the answers that people gave. It was nice to be able to ask questions that made people think, to read answers that were interesting and thoughtful and sometimes hilarious. I spend so much time at my job asking people questions I know the answers to because I need a quote that it was nice to be doing real questions. Made me miss field work, a little, although I never got the sense of taking advantage of my subjects that I always did as an anthropologist. I don't know if that means I've grown up or grown callous or that y'all aren't all that exploitable:)
There was an article in the times about Bush's proposed education cuts. Chimp in a dress I tell you. My revolutionary days aren't that far behind me and wow am I ready to dig out my Che hat again!

Date: 2004-02-03 09:11 pm (UTC)hee. I'll join you on that one. Having done playwriting workshops in public school I can tell you that there are not enough teachers and anyone who thinks a class of 35 freshman can be taught without any difficultly are demented and in a serious need of a lobotomy.
Pull out your hat and I'll pull out my soapbox and let's go.

I love the icon.
