Let's File this under the Crazed John "It just keeps getting better and better..." category.
For you in SoCal who watch the news, and have heard the Laurel Canyon has been shut down, ha ha. Hee. wait for it. The house that's been red tagged, the one in danger of sliding down onto the street? Is pretty much right across the street from my apartment.
M.'s master plan is to grab the cats and run should the mountain come charging after us. Mine is just to sit in my room and weep.
I put change out there into the universe. This, most adamantly not what I meant.
I made peace with my belongings, on the off chance that something should happen, and well. It is what it is. I feel so badly for the people whose house is preparing to slide down onto the street. The absolute suckiness of that really can't be imagined. I know that the likelihood of mud and house taking over my apartment is slim. I think the city would have evacuated us if they were that worried, but it's enough to make me hazy and sleepless.
I did pretty well this weekend with maintaining a positive attitude, but just freaked today when I got to work. I'm panicky and fluttery and my heart's racing too fast, and while I submitted five resumes and cover letters, all to jobs I'd rock at, I know a zillion other people have done the same thing, and I'm awash and atwitter and just feel so very fucked.
And you know what I'd like? Fic. I really, really would. I'm not above begging.
In better news, Happy Happy Birthday to
queenofthorns and to
jenlev, and belated birthday wishes to
danceswithwords and
pdxscaper and anyone else who's birthday I missed. Ladies, I'd offer you ficcy presents, but I'm far too frazzled so instead I'll promise you rainchecks. AFter all, I'm only four months late on
suelac's birthday fic.
And also, congratulations to all of the Sparkys winners. Especially all of the LJ contingent. I'm so very pleased of you all, and so very proud to know you as writers and as people. And while there were definitely a few WTF moments, for the most part, I was just very gratified:)
I did watch BSG this weekend. ( Spoilers )
Also, Disney has released Nausicaa and The Valley of the Wind so I finally got to see it:) Waves to
veritykindle who got me hooked on Miyazaki!! I don't think it was as strong as Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away, but it was so beautifully conceptualized and realized, dealing with our responsibility to the Earth and to each other without being heavy handed. It's very much worth seeing.
And yes, I did watch the Oscars, but let me tell you how much less fond of them I've grown since living less than a mile a way and dealing with the street closings. Very, very less than fond.
