TV, Yes, There was TV.
Feb. 19th, 2004 11:39 amTo say I hated this episode would be slightly wrong. I didn't hate it. I just, well, I hate talking dolls. I loved the Muppets, but I wasn't much on Sesame Street as a kid except for Oscar the Grouch and Cookie Monster. And talking dolls have always terrified me. The X-Files ep Chinga scared the hell out of me. So, I was probably not really disposed to liking this.
I did love Spike's reaction. I so loved Spike's reaction, and the felt vamp teeth and the detachable nose (which unfortunately also made me think of the detachable penis song, and that is just very, very wrong). I loved that the puppet had better hair than David Boreanaz has been sporting this season and that they nailed the expressions, had the extended Neandertal browridge, the scowl. Hee. Yeah, okay, so that was great.
I just kind of hated the construct the episode was built around, and truthfully, it bored me while creeping me out. I also kind wanted them to pick a metaphor and stick with it:)
The Fred/Wes was sweet, if a little rushed, and I so don't care about Angel/Nina but I loved that Wes finally called him on the curse thing. Dude, gettin' laid isn't gonna lead to perfect happiness, but it might make you a hell of a lot more fun.
One of the reasons that storyline worked for me with Buffy is because she was a teenager, and he was being played as the world's oldest 20 year old. The angst, the heightened sense of feeling that accompanies adolesence, and the lovely way they played out the beginnings of that affair sold me on the perfect happiness thing. They'd built up Angel's suffering, his ineffectual attempts to make up for the havoc and horror he wreaked, and he was with someone who was his equal in terms of suffering, responsability, victim of fate, etc.
So I like the idea that Wes calls him on the curse and basically tells him to get over it. It sets up a variety of possibilities for him, and that makes me happy:)
The Gunn arc was heavy handed, I thought. I would have liked hints over the season, slips that were smaller. Shrug.
And there was no Season 5 West Wing viewing because I am a moron. I set the timer just fine, but I set it for Bravo! Yes, there was the throwing of objects. So I watched the Season 4 finale again, which actually was on Bravo. Love Toby with the babies. And hats, and the transfer of power, because damn John Goodman makes a great bad ass.
I am becoming strangely fond of Keen Eddie, though. That can't be good:)
I have a master plan for this evening. It involves red wine, and cooking. Actual cooking since I bought out the produce section of Whole Foods. I haven't been to the real grocery store since the strike began. I usually don't get to grocery shop until late at night because of the constant working thing, but went hog wild at Whole Foods. I bought rapini, and spinach and clementines and lemons and new potatoes and Pomi crushed tomatoes and I'm gonna cook dammit!
I also need to write, maybe I should start the remix, or work on the sequel. Although, I should probably continue to just edit:)

Date: 2004-02-19 08:01 pm (UTC)You're doing this for me as a favor!! And one that's supremely appreciated:) There is no guilt or glaring involved. And much of what's been talked about for earlier sections is applicable to later stuff, so I have things to work on:)
Enjoy the painting, and the hosting, and the good things that you're doing!!

Date: 2004-02-19 09:11 pm (UTC)I haven't made Angel viewing a regular habit. If I remember it's on, I'll watch it, if I don't remember, no big deal. I told David Kemper at the 2002 Burbank con that he had ruined TV for me and that still holds true. There isn't anything out there right now that I absolutey must see every week and that's sad.
I am becoming strangely fond of Keen Eddie, though.
Me too. Although I never remember when it's on. Hmmm, there really isn't anything that I must watch or the memory loss is due to my age *g* Last weekend they aired 3 Keen Eddie episodes in a row on Saturday afternoon, maybe they'll do that again *g*

Date: 2004-02-19 10:14 pm (UTC)It's the doll thing. It creeps me out:) I've never seen Child's Play, and I won't watch movies with doll's that come to life. Too many campfire stories maybe:)

Date: 2004-02-20 01:11 am (UTC)I really enjoyed Keen Eddie. Damn Fox idiots. We don't get Bravo, so I'm missing the episodes that didn't air on Fox. :( Hope one of these days they'll be on DVD.
