Back among the living
Jan. 1st, 2004 02:20 pmHome safely, and rang in the New Year with champagne and Bushmill's. What would the first of January be without a headache:)
Hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday, or at least some good vacation time. Thanks so much for all of the well wishes!! I'm still playing catch up with e-mail and haven't even tackled LJ yet! So if I've missed something exciting, please let me know.
Family was good, surreal and difficult and frustrating, but also funny and endearing and just so mine. My dad is walking a little now with assitance from the cane, which is fantastic. However, he made me steal a Rolling Stone from therapy for him, and here I am, magazine tucked under my arm while he makes his way slowly out the door and I just shook my head and said, "You're not much good to commit crimes with these days." He gave me a dirty look, but really, what's a crime without an escape plan! We watched much Farscape, and I - gulp - left him the Season 4 tapes for the second half which he missed due to the stroke. The odds of me seeing those again are minimal. He was sucky about sending things before the stroke! But we had a great time playing with the DVD's.
Saw Return of the King and bawled through all of the wrong places. The first battle, I was just a mess. And cried all the way through Eowyn's stand off with the Witch-King. Too much tied up in my childhood memory of listening to the record and reading the books. The people next to me thought I was insane.
Read a ton of lightweigh books, and also read Arcadia (thanks
haphazardmethod, it was fantastic).

Saw <i>Return of the King</i> and bawled through all of the wrong places. The first battle, I was just a mess. And cried all the way through Eowyn's stand off with the Witch-King. Read a ton of lightweigh books, and also read <i>Arcadia</i> (thanks <user site="livejournal.com" user="haphazardmethod">, it was fantastic).
<user site="livejournal.com" user="rubberneck"> and <ljuser="pdxscaper"> both read <i>Blue Eyes</i> straight through. Ladies, you amaze me. That's quite a haul. But thanks. Although I feel guilty for still not being done. Writing by hand is time consuming and impractical and doesn't give me the thrill it used to. I only finished one chapter, but the rest is in my head, waiting to go, so I need to transfer the handwritten chapter to the computer and then write away. Don't have to go back to work until Monday, so the plan is to write, work on my resume, and get my life back together. 10 days in someone else's reality is always a little hard to shake off.
Hope everyone is well, though! I missed you all!

Date: 2004-01-02 02:09 pm (UTC)I'll never get the tapes back from my dad unless I retrieve them myself, but I'm committed to the DVD's, got the first set of Season 4, and just sort of fell into adoration again. It's amazing what seeing them clear and clean and commercial free, without the breathholding moment of trying to remember when the feed went wonky from Adelphia does for appreciating the show. But we watched Unrealized Reality and Kansas and then I left the rest of them with him and just so, so want to watch Terra Firma right now!!
