Musically inclined, and happy GIP post.
Sep. 16th, 2003 12:27 pmWhy don't they make a whole bag of miniature Mr. Goodbars? There the only one's I like, which is good since it means I don't consume an entire bag of chocolate, but I don't like the full sized ones. The chocolate is mediocre in large amounts. It's a mystery.
Second, big hugs to
crankygrrl. Honey, I'm so sorry for your loss. And make sure you don't get the LGM porn and the eulogy mixed up. That would be terrible. But funny.
So for Kath, and for
rubberneck and
fbfand all the other fic writers struggling through, battling against the bunnies and the weasels (and if anyone has icon making abilities and also has access to screen caps from Futurama, I'd pay highly in fic to have an icon of the Spice Weasel that says "Bam, Plot Weasel," - which is inspired completely by
infinitemonkeys comments to
suelac on her XF/Spooks fic that there are really no bunnies, only plot weasels. I love that.) and I just got way off topic,
kernezelda made me some gorgeous new icons.
Yes, I'm a shameless begger of people's iconic talent. I've begged a Bender icon off of
kixxa because she also has one. But I'm happy to return the favor in kind.
This was supposed to be about music. That's what my title line says. I've been indulging myself lately, layering on music, cd after cd and reveling in it. Fall is really the time for that. Always has been since I was a kid. Saturdays in the house, music going all day, in the living room, on the car radio, in the basement where my dad wailed on his guitar, and sadly, all too rarely from my piano or oboe if you could call the noises I made with the oboe music.
But I've got new CD's to revel in and write to, and still go back to my favorites. I buy Uncut because I gave up on Rolling Stone years ago and mark the pages. I long to be Lester Bangs, and stream of conscious my way through the bands and artists I love, infusing the reviews, well they weren't really reviews but more Bangs himself spilling onto the page, raging against his heroes when he thought they'd betrayed him. One of the original fanboys I guess. So obsessed with music that he lost himself.
And to prove that I actually work at work, I'm writing a column about free or cheap activities for parents and their kids to participate in within L.A. The L.A. Cultural Affairs department has proved to be a godsend in this particular piece. I write this colum every three months an have totally used up all of the obvious places. But if anyone has suggestions, I'm more than open.
And in continuing my first season West Wing love. I have decided that I do actually like Sam. Manditory Minimums was on last night. These people are really bad with the personal relations, which is amusing, but I'm just a giddy fool for the politics. (I have to admit though, I really wanted CJ to play nice with Danny:)

::waves hand:: Ooh! Ooh! I know!
Date: 2003-09-16 12:48 pm (UTC)Do the activities have to take place within the city of LA, or can they be in surrounding areas?
The LA Chamber Orchestra has a Family Concert series at the Alex Theatre in Glendale:

And here's a scoop: the first show will feature guest artists Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer.
Also, the LA County Arts Commission could also be of help in amassing your list:
