Things of Joy
Aug. 15th, 2008 04:29 pm1. Plane ticket to International Hussy Weekend: The Grapes of Wrath (we're wine tasting) purchased. Credit Card is weeping, but it sucked up the charge. My delicately constructed financial tightrope at least held for this.
2. Michael Phelps. And Ryan Lochte. And Aaron Piersol. And Nathalie Coughlin. And Rebecca Soni. Last night was a joy to watch in Olympic Swimming. But I swear to god, I could not take it if there was a scandal involving Phelps and his fish-genetics. I just couldn't. And I kind of sort of hope he absolutely kicks Cavic's ass tonight. I don't think I'd mind if Ian Crocker won, but really, did Cavic learn nothing from the French? You don't talk smack in a race against Phelps and expect to come out ahead. I'll be biting my nails all the way through though!
3. Some rest tonight. I've allowed myself to be cranky and unfocused all week at work and that ends now. I'm going to write, eat pizza, go for a short walk and get up tomorrow morning to train, hoping my knee is okay.
4. I need to sob, need to undo that valve that releases the pressure build up of travel, stress, exhaustion, emotion, etc. So, favorite outlets for tears? Books, movies, tv show episodes? What's your favorite trigger?
5. The amazing cherries I just ate. So, so bright and thick and tasty.
6. The writer's salon we're having with writer's group this weekend. But what to read?!?! New or old?

Date: 2008-08-16 02:07 am (UTC)For The X-Files, the end of "Requiem" just makes me wail. The look on Mulder's face, looking back toward Skinner, knowing that he is trapped, that look of brave resignation, of a man going forth to meet his destiny, just slays me. And then Scully's joyful, tearful "I'm pregnant."
My movie weepie favs tend to be sports movies. Hoosiers is a favorite. I always cry at the end of Jerry Maguire. For non-sports movies, I always cry when Judy Garland sings "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" in Meet Me in St. Louis. I also love Romeo and Juliet, every version, including West Side Story. Oh, and of course, Carousel.
The opera La Boheme is another certified three handkerchief event. I have a concert version to watch at home, but there is nothing like seeing it in person to turn on the waterworks.
For books, Little Women is the one that always made me cry, then and now.
I am a complete sap. Now you know the truth.

I think it's my favorite movie EVER, and this is the one I always use for that much-needed cleansing cry. Even the music is gorgeous (Lisa Gerrard, anyone?).
