My weekend rocked. And has also completely worn me out and left me out to dry in the sun (which fortunately is 10% less hot today than on Saturday).

Things of note:

1. You cannot buy a single speaker. Yes, I realize I'm the only one who harbored this illusion. Certainly, the nice man at Best Buy did not harbor it. Nor did anyone with a penis that I posed the intent to buy a single speaker. I'm guessing that the whole penis factor was not unique and that really, every one of either gender (or those with both or neither) also new that - like shoes, and like boobs- speakers come in pairs.

2. I bought a car. Sort of. I am the proud leasee of a beautiful "Phantom Purple" Mazda 3. Every single thing in this car works. Including the engine. And when I left the Saturn at the dealership, I cried. (Actually, that's a lie. I sat in the car and held the steering wheel and cried and thanked it for doing what it did.) I love the Zoom-zoom car, but I get attached. Plus, in my desire to actually leave the Mazda dealership (where we'd been for five hours), I neglected to give them the key to the Saturn. So I have to go back. Rolls eyes at self.

3. I am in my new office, actually doing my new job. Bob Dylan's looking down at me from the wall, and I'm sort of shaky and giddy with this.

4. Finally, for the sock hating and the shoe loving, [livejournal.com profile] feetwantout. Shoes! Shoes in summer. And feet in summer. And both combined. Take pictures. Post them. Win prizes.

Hee! The shoe thing is something i spend a fair amount of time contemplating. Maybe because i see them on the road near where i live with some regularity.

Hee - I'm going to be in your neck of the woods next weekend, although with my mom and without the purple Mazda!

But, I do think that a trip in the fall with B would be a fabulous idea. We must convince her!

did you go to my favorite dealership ever in Glendale? ;) They called me today to see if I'd hit 4k miles for my oil change, and I wondered about you!

p.s. we so need to drag race now! (j/k)

I did go over there. Unfortunately, we walked out. The internet guy was already with someone and the guy he handed us over to was 100 and it just wasn't meant to be.

And hee - we totally need to drag race.

Rock.

you, me & the 405 south right after the 10 offramp at 4:30am. Woo!

for non-L.A. residents, this is the only time of day when the only stretch of flat, non-traffic-light road is actually empty.

Yay, new car! Not least because I was worried about your safety in the old one. {/mom}

Also, yay, new office and new job! And being giddy with it!

Hugs you. Thanks honey. I think my own mom just tried REALLY hard not to think about the Saturn falling apart in the middle of the road:)

Yay for all the good news! Shiny new cars are fun.

MC tells me that if you're willing to build it yourself (or know someone who can do it for you) then Radio Shack may be able to hook you up with a single speaker.

From: [identity profile] thassalia.livejournal.com
Hee - there's no way in hell I'd build a speaker from scratch:) But tell him that the thought is much appreciated:) And also, I feel vindicated in that it can be done!

Yay new car!

I was very sad when I sent my car to Car Heaven. I knew it made no sense, the car is not a sentient being, etc. etc. It didn't matter. I was sad anyway.

From: [identity profile] thassalia.livejournal.com
Exactly! It doesn't matter that I KNOW the car is not sentient! I loved it and it meant something to me and it's no longer my problem and I'm still mourning it.

Usually when an object means a lot to you, you can keep it in a box when it's worn out and no longer useful. Harder to do that with a car. (Or a house.)

Dude, it's so true. I took a zillion pictures of the car though:) And M. took a pic with all of the junk we had to transfer from one car to another:)
