Happy Valentine's Day
Feb. 14th, 2007 10:18 amValentine's Day
I must say however, that now it mostly just makes me think of
minervacat's Valentine the Destroyer series (of which there's a new story posted today. Does a little dance of squee and hopes for time to read it at work).
I am in the minority, apparently. I like the pinkish/purple LJ header. It's not like it's forever and I find it kind of charming. Of course, I also like pink and feel fairly strongly that one can still be kick-ass and like pink. I did not feel this way as a teenager, but I have evolved in my color regard. Of course, I also have a pink wig that I love muchly and would like to wear every day, but I am not some sort of uber-genius on a police procedural and therefore must keep my hair a fairly normal color to maintain what smidgen of professionalism I care to have. (And no, Kath, the Bjork hair does not count!!). I think it's nice that LJ loves me:)
I would, perhaps, like it more if it were sending me comment notifications for the fic I posted yesterday because there's really nothing like the let-down of posting what you KNOW is ridiculously domestic fic that tags a really not fabulous (but still enjoyable if not quite broadcast in the US) ep and thinking that NO ONE liked it except for oneself. (Not that I'm not totally capable of amusing myself, but you know, I like having my ego stroked as much as the next person:)
Stargate longings
I want the new SG-1 ep so, so badly. I know not to read spoilers. I know better. But I can't help myself and I WANTS IT! I know that we've got spotty stolen internet at home and I managed to get The Quest, 2 and Bounty by the universal grace that finds Cam/Vala as amusing as I do, but really, I'd like that grace extended to me somehow aquiring this ep. Please internet gods, love me today since my mother does not!! (Okay, that's a lie. But she didn't send me card and she always sends me a card. Okay, technically, she sent me a card with a snowscape and money to help with the car repair so all of my whining is really just that, but still!!!)
ETA: My mother just sent me a LUSH gift certificate through the e-mail. She really does love me!! (For figuring out how to shop online as much as the GC. Loves my mother!!)
Scifi in the media - a rant
I had thinky thoughts about two reviews/recs for Battlestar Galactica that I read in the mainstream media recently - People and The LA TIMES, but frankly, they were both so annoying and disingenuous that I'm not going to bother (from People - Girls!! It's okay to watch BSG. It's hot! There's a female lead!) From the LA TIMES (Sci-fi has renewed for 13 episodes because it's DEEP and POLITICAL OMG, about PEOPLE unlike all that other stuff that's called science fiction). Fuckers. I should be happy about media exposure to science fiction but it just so frequently pisses me off. Because yeah people - hot naked Tricia Helfer and Hot not naked Katee Sakhoff are definitely draws, but what about equally hot Grace Park and Mary McDonnell and having an older woman absolutely rocking this show, completely subervting our early 21st century definitions of women kicking ass and taking names and making the hard calls while our little ass kicker whines about her mommy angst and her love life (no offense to Starbuck. I still love you in theory, baby!!!).
Writing Prompts
And finally, stealing this idea completely from
sdwolfpup, give me a fandom and two people and I'll send one of them a valentine from the other in drabble form. They don't have to like each other. They don't have to be from the same fandom. Just give me names:) But I'm still on a writing high and this sounds like fun.
ETA the 2nd:
sdwolfpup is sending literal valentines from characters to people they dislike. It's freaking hysterical. Go check it out!!

Ooh. Writing prompt. I'm so indecisive. Either Stark/Noranti or Bond/M. I think I'm more in a Bond/M mood. Whichever.

Date: 2007-02-14 08:45 pm (UTC)Enclosed, please find the number of a very discreet arms manufacturer who has been instructed to tailormake you a hand gun to your exact specifications at my expense.
I do not exactly like you,Mr. Bond, but I understand weapons, and their value, and you sir, have become a weapon that I'd prefer to handle rather than hand off. I've a feeling that if we can keep you from... prematurely going off (and yes, I realize this metaphor works both for explosives and ejaculation. I think you'll find the duality suitably apt) than you may prove to be worth my time and energy.
If you break into my house again, I'll have you killed.
Yours,
M.

She is a pink afficionada, just yesterday was bemoaning the abscence of pink handled carpentry tools. Perhaps she was right, there is a market for pink power tools!

Dean Winchester/Aeryn Sun...seems to me they might have a few things in common. Just sayin'.

Date: 2007-02-14 09:19 pm (UTC)Saw this bowie knife and thought of you. (Maybe you wanna not show this note to your boyfriend because I think he's probably crazier than I am and the last time we all met I don't think he liked me very much. But then, maybe he'll just laugh because he's already
bangingsleeping with you and I'm just sendin' you weapons through the mail.)Oh, sorry, Sam says this isn't very romantic, but I think you're a practical girl and won't mind too much if I call it like it is, so...Sam also says girls like poetry, but when I wrote you some he said that even in an alien language, dirty limmericks are still not romantic. I finally told him to fuck off if he wasn't going to help. And there's still nothing else that rhymes with Nantucket. So...
Here it is. The gospel according to Dean Winchester:
You're hot. You kill things really, really well. And I mentioned the hot. Oh yeah, you're smart. You're kind of funny (Sam says you're dry like a martini, but I think that's a craptastic metaphor). You've got good hair and
great tits(sorry, again, Sam says girls don't like it when people say that). Umm, hmmm. I mentioned the killing and the hotness? Oh, you wear leather pants and have a really excellent weapon collection and you looked really, really good sitting in the passenger seat of the Impala (so... freaking... cool, man!!!).If you ever wanna ditch that crazy-as-a shithouse rat-boyfriend and go kill things and have lots of hot sex, Dean Winchester is so your man.
We could even do it in the Impala.Dammit, Sam, that is too an excellent offer! But for now, hope you like the knife. They put your name on the handle.
Happy Extortion Day,
Dean

Date: 2007-02-14 08:54 pm (UTC)Dig the pants. Also, how do you breathe in that bustier? I'm looking to accessorize and think that S&M diva princess look has some promise, but, you know, breathing also has it's appeal. (I've always avoided the corset thing because it seemed so Violent Femmes Vampire Goth, but every once in awhile, I like to play havoc with tradition).
I see you've hooked up on a permanent basis with some hot men and a smart chick. Cool. I was never much of a team player either, but lately, playing nice has felt sort of... novel.
If you're ever in the neighborhood and want to continue those lessons on "hide the stake in your cleavage" and "always leave them wanting more", give me a call. I understand your reluctance to steal from vamps (yeah, yeah, I get the whole living for a thousand years gives you a long time to hold a grudge against a perfectly nice girl thing), but really if we stake first and steal second, it all works out in the end.
Anyway, gotta run. FetishGirlsRUs is havin' a sale and the last damned vamp I staked ripped my vinyl pants. Fuckers refuse to trim their nails! (Mostly I'm looking to traumatize B, but I can always do both).
Peace. And Happy Hearts and Flowers and All That Crap Day.
Love,
Faith
