I might as well do it in my brain, since I'm clearly not doing it in my house. (Hee, in retrospect that could apply to so many things!).

First and foremost, hugs and kisses to [livejournal.com profile] kernezelda for the Christmas goodies. Loves you like crazy , dear.

Second, hugs and slobbery kisses to all of you who said such nice things about me and to [livejournal.com profile] raithen for pointing it out! I can't tell you how weepy I got at people anonymously saying that they liked and appreciated me. (But hee, I so know who some of you are:)

In that vein, I'm very happy to do that meme thing were you post a response and ask why I love or appreciate you and I get to tell you!!!:) I'm in a spread the love phase.

Third, [livejournal.com profile] leadensky posted some beautiful pieces this past week, particularly Head's of State, and But for Grace which were responses to different random character relationship prompts. Hossgal does good work, and all of these are worth reading, but I particularly love the John/Rygel piece because it's so true to both of them, appreciative and cutting and honest and ultimately lovely. But swing by her LJ to follow the other links to various treasures.

Fourth, I got to (inadvertently) put on my anthro cap this week. Although, the inadvertancy was partially in response to one of my clients who is doing a very high end post-bacc in global responses to trauma. However, this group of medical and psych and policy professionals is in desperate need of a cultural anthropologist and I sort of had a little meltdown with my client at these concepts of women and status that they're working with.

Status is specific to a culture - what it means, how it's used, how it's achieved. My view of how women are treated in a society means very little compared to a woman's view who exists in that society. I can't believe that anyone who went to college didn't watch the potlatch movie. So how these very educated, very dedicated professionals can adopt such a western philosophy towards trauma and status and mental health services is beyond me. Actually, it's not. They are responding to concepts as they exist in our culture and not looking at the realities of the cultures they're trying to serve. They need to watch that potlatch movie again and figure out that they cannot impose their own interpretation and perspectives on these cultures and if they do, they aren't actually going to be providing them with mental health support that is culturally relevant because they don't understand what cultural relevancy means.

Okay, anthro rant over. Juggles the yams. Tucks them into my grass skirt. Sashays away.

Sometimes, I feel like my own reaction to different fandom issues is all about cultural relevancy and I want to throw yams at everyone:)
