Which is better than guided by voices, I guess. Or not. Throws up hands in confusion.

I went gym shopping last night, which is to say I went to 24 Hour Fitness, and got talked into (sort of talked into) buying a membership. Said membership has a 5 day cancellation policy, and I was so hard sold into it, tag teamed in fact which kind of cracked me up because the wheelin' and dealin' guy I was talking to brought over this very handsome associate to give me some other option and I was bemused by his pretty blue eyes (and by the 5 day cancellation policy) and despite my reservations about the gym itself - it's so big, and so open, and so many thin people, and it smells weird, smells like a gym (not a workout gym like the Krav Maga center which smelled like bouncy flooring and old sweat) but like all 24 Hour Fitness' smell - kind of metallic and weird. And their pool wasn't filled.

So I bought the membership, then went to the Hollywood YMCA, and it smelled right - like all Y's, like hardwood flooring and old building and chlorine - and I'm cancelling the 24 Hour Fitness membership to join the Y. I like that it's a part of the community, that there're kids around, and they offer financial assistance and hell, I spent most of my childhood at the Y - swimming lessons and day camp and overnight camp, and it just feels right. And more importantly, it smelled right! The nose knows, you know?

LJ wouldn't work on my laptop last night and I was bereft! Bereft I tell you! But the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] kernezelda sent me back her beta - with kind words, and some mild chiding over my disinterst in commas and my repetetive writing style, all well deserved and probably unlikely to radically change. I like my sentences to have texture and movement, to be onomatopeiaic in themselves. But I understand that can get old. Now I'm just waiting for [livejournal.com profile] cofax7's beta and I already feel better about the porn, so yeah! And this gives me time to do my own edit and address some of the textual issues that Kerne brought up.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] cofax7 posted a link to the SG-1 promo pictures, which are weirdly and heavily airbrushed (especially, inexplicably, the pics of Claudia Black which is just annoying because she's gorgeous and has so much character in her face and the pictures make her look... odd. Flat. Not real, but not in a supermodel kind of way, like in a not quite human, more like a mannequin kind of way). However, Ben Browder is wearing a sweater and jeans which I was unprepared for, and I may need some alone time with the picture of him in said sweater with Michael Shanks and Christopher Judge because, well... mmmmm, hands in pockets and sweater and jeans. I mentioned the sweater and jeans, right? There's also a really lovely one of him and CB where she doesn't look plasticized that's just very... nice somehow. Very sweet and chaste and charming, which is sort a new concept for them:) It's weird to see any pic of them together where they've both got that much clothing on that's not leather:)

And wow, I just spent a paragraph gushing about pictures of actors. They're so taking a way my liberal commie pinko hippie feminist decoder ring away. That's okay, with all those qualifiers, it gets kind of heavy to wear anyway.

I did a first run-through last night when I got home, but I got derailed by another obligation (will throw up a link to that later today ::is mysterious::). Maybe tonight?

And yeah, the sweater-over-t-shirt look on Ben is very nice. And Claudia would look lovely if they'd just let her look like herself instead of some weird plasticine alien critter. Nice boots and jeans, too, although I'm not enamored of the weird ribbony thing on the neckline of her top.

I swear, I would pay good money to some SFC peon to rescue the original photos from the network server. They've got to be there somewhere, right? Right?

And go you on joining the Y. Yay Y!

Tonight would be fine! Totally not a guilt trip:) I promise! I really am going to go through and work on the sentence flow so it's nice to do that for one beta and then look over stuff for the next. And yeah mysterious other obligation:) Mysterious obligations tend to end well for fandom at large.

I looove men in sweaters. It's a weird kink and I have no idea what caused it, but they couldn't have done better with that sweater if they'd tried. And grrr and beatings to whomever airbrused those photos of CB! It just annoys me! What were they thinking? But, yeah, love the boots and jeans, and I actually really like that they have street clothes on and not uniforms. Sigh. So close to being fabulous, and yet...

I'm very excited about the Y:) It just feels right and is in this fabulous old building that used to be a school and so there're are random elliptical trainers in strange hallways and it's sort of a maze, and has a little garden, and there were small children doing tae kwan do, and yeah. I think it's a good choice:)

Re: those promo pics, this morning I said, "Screw spoilers," and looked. YIKES. They started with the out-of-control airbrushing with the S8 promos, iirc, but this is so far beyond that, I actually gasped, "Plastic people!" Also, Teal'c's head truly scared me in that first pic. So...trapezoidal. Anyway, mmm yes, Ben in the sweater-over-t. Particularly liked the one with his arms crossed, because it looked almost like the sweater was too big and apparently I have a thing for that. Who knew?

And a gym that smells right is very important. Go with that! Don't give in to the pretty blue!

Yeah. Evil airbrushers!! What the hell they were thinking I do not know, but I'll just stick to the sweater/arms crossed piccy! And hee - see we're learning something new about men in sweaters everyday! All these years they've been putting him in tight t-shirts and they could have just given him a sweater. (Well, no, I don't wish that:) But still!)

And yeah, not giving in to pretty blue eyed sales boy because he was making very little commission off me and I don't feel guilty.

What if Bob Dylan wears a sweater?

Well, my love for Bob sort of transcends the physical now that he's 65:) I think he might look a tad creepy in a sweater these days:)

I totally agree with that.

By the way, I hereby denounce you as a liberal commie pinko hippie feminist for the following reason:

uh. er. ah. You belly dance, which is some sort of proclamation of feminine power and sexuality, and you teach, which means your liberal self is corrupting the minds of youth, and you admire Bob Dylan, who was some sort of radical in the sixties or seventies.

So there!

DID you join the Y yet? because they told us all of us are a family at the same address. and we were going to go down this weekend. if you want to lie about your address, it would be 87$ a month split FOUR ways. which would be incredible. let me know.

Date: 2006-06-14 05:46 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thassalia.livejournal.com
Oh dude!! That's fabulous!! I'll let you know about the address thing - I've got no real problems lying about my address, but I'm also happy to give the Y my money:)(because I love them) (I'm joining the Hollywood Branch if that makes a difference!) And knowing that they'll let you guys be a family makes me want to join even more.

so: to clarify. you want to all join together this weekend? (that was the branch we were planning on anyway.) they told us, unequivocally, that anyone under our roof was family.

The only thing I'm worried about is that my credit cards, etc. would be listed under my actual mailing address and wouldn't process correctly. Actually, it's probably better if I join independently, (I'm such a baby about stuff like this:) I'll break big rules, but I'm totally a toe the line girl when it comes to silly smaller ones:)

Hmmm. Although I could put my home address down as my billing address. And it's not like I'd be getting mail from them, aside from the membership card:) ARgh. Let me think about it!

But dude, I'm so excited that you guys are joining as well!

Argh!! I think I am too neurotic to lie to the Y about my address. Rolls eyes so hard at myself. It feels like lying to my mother:)

And dude, hope the end of the "retreat" is not terrible!

On a totally random note, I'm planning a belated birthday party in July!! But I hope to see y'all before then!
