* It's hard to take a sport seriously with an element called "twizzling". That said, the ice dancers are very pretty and work very hard and since both my DVD player and the PS2 have conspired against me, I'm going to watch ice dancing until 11:00 p.m. when BSG is on, which I shall then watch. And yes, I can make fun of the ice dancing vernacular with full knowledge of the fact that I routinely do movements in belly dancing that we call choo-choos.

* Saw Capote this afternoon with filmg33k. It was fabulous and meaty and I have a loooooong essay on the ethical implications of what he did in light of being a writer, with equal thoughts on that as an anthropologist. But I need more time to formulate what I want to say.

* Did Kundilani Yoga on Sunday morning, complete with chanting and meditation. The movement kicked my ass, and while the meditation was a little... out there for me, I was really.... touched by the experience in much the same way I was touched when I did field work with the Quakers and discovered how powerful and tangible and everychanging, how expressive silence in a roomful of people could be. I sort of maid myself sick though, not drinking enough water afterwards, driving down to Long Beach, stressing out and having wine. I was shaky and sweaty and disoriented and had to come home, drink a bunch of EmergenC and take a bath. I will go back to yoga. I liked the chanting.

* For the SG-1 fen, a question. Some part of my brain suggests that I've picked up by osmosis that Teal'c would not drink alcohol. Am I totally making that up? I certainly hope so.

Re: Teal'c drinking. When he hangs with the Jaffa, the implication is that they drink wine. At least on the commentaries everyone lamented that it 'wasn't really wine' that the actors were drinking and they were sad about it. In canon, when on earth Teal'c seems to prefer ginger ale to beer and ordered it once in a bar scene. I don't really remember it ever coming up on the series at any other point.

I think that 'no drinking' thing is a fanon abberation. I don't know why that's developed like that. Man would have an amazing tolerance, after all, with his body weight.

Actually, I have a memory of there being an "I do not consume alcohol" line somewhere (ah, my Google-fu says it's in "The Other Side", season 4). And on several occasions, we've seen him drink non-alcoholic things while his team-mates drink beer.

However, the reasons are left unclear - it could be a symbiote thing, in which case it's not an issue for a season 9 fic.

He does say that in "The Other Side"! I thought I remembered hearing it, but I wasn't 100% sure. When you mentioned the episode, I popped in my DVD, and lo and behold, there it was: "I do not consume alcohol."

I am still, however, under the impression that his reasoning is a preference since they haven't ever given a reason why he doesn't drink it.

I've always gotten the feeling that Teal'c prefers not to drink alcohol. For example, in "Fire and Water" (S1), Jack offers Sam and Teal'c drinks at Daniel's wake. Sam goes for a beer, while Teal'c says, "I must refrain." He's never shown drinking alcohol, usually just refusing it.

Also somewhat noteworthy: Teal'c doesn't drink milk ("bovine lactose", as he called it), which he stated in "The Changeling" (S6). We have, however, seen him drink water, tea, cranberry juice, and ginger ale.

heeeeeeeeee - and in reading your fic, posted after this I believe, I could so totally agree with Teal'c knowing how to make frou frou drinks even if he doesn't drink them. And, carrying a portable bar. The man is prepared for every event!

Teal'c definitely refuses alcohol on several occasions, but never (I think) after he loses his symbiote (though I'm not sure we ever see him drinking it or refusing it after that point), so fanon on this tends to be that alcohol doesn't agree with Junior. After season 6, though, I guess it's fair game. I don't remember any actual canon mentions of the tee-totaler/symbiote connection, but I'm not very encyclopedic about these things.

And OMG Capote!!! Best film I've seen in ages! I'm looking forward to reading what you have to say about it.
