ETA2: Yeah!! The Who just completely rocked the house and made up for the previous hour! And denyeverything1, apparently I have not missed Pink Floyd because they are now on my giant TV singing "Breathe" and I'm getting all weepy again:)

Wasn't that amazing? Particularly when you (well, I) didn't know it was coming. ;-)

I've just figured out that this wasn't 10 hours of the concert -- it was 2 identical 5-hour broadcasts, one on VH1 this morning and one on MTV this afternoon.

Great because of the no commercials/no VJs, but repeating (only) 5 hours means we get Mariah Carey twice and no BareNaked Ladies (that I could see) and no REM either (I think -- I wasn't home the whole time).

Man, for a channel with "music" in its name, these guys sure are clueless.

Sigh. Exactly, because I didn't expect to see Pink Floyd, and I was so thrilled with Pete Townshend and had turned back to my work and then those first few notes started and I looked up and just started to cry. They were phenomenal, and seeing them up there, no animosity, just a bunch of old friends, mourning one of their number and playing their hearts out. It just killed me.

And yeah, bloody MTV. It's only 5 hours of the same concert. Although I did see REM, and they were fabulous although I don't know why Michael Stipe was wearing that odd blue mask.

actually, i saw a close-up photo of him on CNN.com, and it looks like it was actually woad, not a mask. or some sort of funky blue paint, anyway. and you know, odd and Michael Stipe, not such an unexpected combination.

I bet it was decades. And to make the Americans jealous, the cool thing is that though Robbie Williams was playing Wembley and stuff in the UK, I saw him at The Mayan in L.A. (Capacity: 1500, all standing. Think Le Palais in London.) He was THRILLED to play L.A., though the venue was so much smaller than his usual gig. He put on as full a show as he could on their smaller-than-Wembley stage. Good times, good times.
