First, Happy Birthday to the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] kixxa. May you and the ukelele have a wonderful, harmonious year:)

I'm having one of those overly productive drabble weeks, where I'm far more interested in piecing out the workings of my mind in bite size ficcy chunks than examining it in any rational way.

I went back to ballet last night, despite my still not quite where it's supposed to be hip, and while I'm very glad I went, my body is in a world of hurt right now, loudly chastising me for that rash decision.

Also, I didn't eat until after ballet, teaching my belly dance class, and rehearsal, so when I sucked down a margarita like it was water in the midst of the desert, I got oh so very loaded oh so very fast. It was quite the surprise. I didn't think my liver or my bloodstream could do that anymore.

This week's [livejournal.com profile] farscapefriday challenge somehow had me writing DK. Shocker, huh? But it, and [livejournal.com profile] ixchup's response got me to thinking that I haven't seen any DK meets the aliens fic. I feel that's a nitch that's been sorely ignored, so how 'bout it folks? A little extra drabbley challenge at the end of a lazy friday? You can write it in the comments, take it home and succor it for your very own LJ. This one hits my love for Terra Firma button, as well as offering up the possibility of my other kink - the outside perspective. And I'm not saying it has to be outside perspective. It could be aliens meeting DK, or any of the humans for that matter. But I'd love to see some cultural disconnect, some alien/human parsing going on.

So, to jump start it, my effort is here.

Hmph.

Because if there's one thing I love, it's getting made fun of by CANADIANS!!

It ain't my fault you guys didn't rebel against the monarchy and start your own government.

Hmph.

And let me make it clear that (my own ignorance of the system aside), when I say I don't understand. I don't mean that I don't understand in the I'm not smart enough to figure it out sense, but in the it doesn't track with my concept of how government should word sense. Yes, I know should is a mighty big word. No, I don't think that other governments should necessarily model themselves after the US.

But I will say that my favorite Canadian brings out the weird ass patriot in me. Which is always... unexpected.

I just have trouble with the concept of willingly being ruled by a leader who at some point or another thought they were appointed by the divine. Who gets the job by virtue of being born, no matter the ceremonial nature of the position.

I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just saying that for, personally, with my own sense of how things should work in my particular world, it doesn't track. As I said to Kath. If you think I've got authority issues in the face of an elected official, you should see me gape jawed at the whole royalty concept.

ETA: Just for the record, I'm not as cranky as this makes me sound. Really. Nor as close-minded!
