and the standing around and the driving. I collected a slew of free junk and traded some of it for things I wanted but were being held onto stingily by the other vendors. We didn't have any free junk, except for a CD explaining what we do, but I smiled brightly and passed them out. Best product was definitely the light up yo-yo, or maybe the blowup monkey, but I gave them both away.

As a result, I was wiped out for the weekend. I spent most of my downtime watching Season 1 West Wing. Thank you so much [livejournal.com profile] haphazardmethod for the tapes!! I so love their commercialfreeness, and was surprised by how many eps I hadn't seen from the first season. I enjoyed myself thorougly!

Also watched the Battlestar Gallactica miniseries last night. (And taped it. So if I get it together, [livejournal.com profile] crankygrrl, I'll send it to you before I leave for home on Saturday). Brief Thoughts )

We went to see The Nutcracker, which is such a nice holiday tradition. I do wish productions would have the Arabian dancer wearing bright colors though. My favorite version is the ABT version where Arabian is dressed like a Peacock. The dancer has superhuman flexibility, though and the effect is a little creepy and hypnotic. I also wish they wouldn't dress Sugar Plum in such pale colors. These are such gorgeous dancers, and they blend into the sets.

I have an unbelievable amount of stuff to do before I leave on Saturday. And I have no idea how I'm going to navigate 10 days of family, internet free. My dad has a computer, so I guess I'll have some access, but it's not the same, and I don't stay with him the whole time. I suppose I'll survive:)

And because I couldn't help myself, even though my brain was screaming, "It's too late, and you have it on tape," I had to stay up to watch Unrealized Realities.

Minor Spoilers )

ETA: There was an article in the L.A. Times yesterday about Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials books. [livejournal.com profile] hesychasm has been discussing them in depth. The idiots at The Times have established a new section that you have to pay for in order to read articles in the Calendar section however, so I can't link to it.

The article talked about the books being a playful reworking of Paradise Lost, and touched briefly on Pullman's dislike of organized religions - the institutions of it, certainly, although not the religious aspect. I feel like I need to re-read these books before I can comment adequately though. I started to respond to[livejournal.com profile] hesychasm's discussion, but felt like I would be talking through my hat a little without going back to reference things, so that's one of the goals over the holidays. Reread parts of the books, especially The Amber Spyglass, which I was somewhat dissatisfied with, in order to have a more thorough discussion.
