The fabulous [livejournal.com profile] suelac has created a new community to relieve stress from now until next Tuesday. Go to the [livejournal.com profile] la_la_la_2004 page, and prepare to indulge in a fit of fic writing and reading that has everything to do with monsters and sombies and smut and wacky , witty banter, and nothing whatsoever to do with politics, unless you mean Bartlett style politics with glowing words and acerbic wit, and O Toby My Toby, because West Wing fic is welcome.

Also, in the, how do I love my job category? Just finished a story on a continuation high school doing a mock voting session on November 2nd to teach students about the electoral college. Some of the kids are old enough to vote for real, and will, but this is set up exactly like the legitimate voting process and I think it's fabulous. These are not, for the most part, kids with a lot of insight or interest in the civic process, and come Tuesday, they'll be lining up at their polling booth to have their voice be heard.

I've been meaning to mention...

I am currently reading a fantastically horrid and lovely bodice ripper. The name of the spunky, independent, doesn't want a man, 12th century greek heroine (who does superior embrodiery and raises silk worms, and is falling for the dark, swarthy former knight Templar)? -- Thea.

I laughed my butt off when I saw this, just so you know.

That is hysterical:) Dude, you so must tell me the name of this bodice ripper:) (We're not going to get into how unlikely it would be that a medieaval Greek woman would get to do anything by herself, or in fact, be named Thea, but other than that, hee:)

OH, the unlikelihoods are part of what make it so fantastically horrid :). It is kinda fun to suspend the disbelief for a while. And, I mean, the novel REFERENCES the council at Nantes... :) "They probably voted that women were human so that they wouldn't all be put to death for bestiality" *snort*

And the book is Lion's Bride by Iris Johansen. (She's gone on to write more mainstream bestsellers, so you've probably seen her more recent stuff on the bestseller racks)

bwahahaha! er, that's for the bodice ripper that [livejournal.com profile] raithen mentioned. too funny.

i like the idea of the new community. a stress free zone....zombies, monsters, and smut, oh my? ;)

very cool about the mock voting session. we did that in grammar school...think outside of boston....strong anti war movement. hmmm. they also had a social studies project where we were given "mock draft cards". which a bunch of us got together and burned. heh. this may not have been the result they were hoping for?

we kicked butt in 6th grade. we also banded together in 7th grade and everyone signed a petition stating that female students (this was public school by the way) could wear pants to school. previously they had that idiotic rule saying we couldn't.

there was only one student who didn't sign it. we even got all the teachers to sign it too. our activist parents were a good influence on most of us. *VEG*
