In Which Mostly I Stay Home
Jan. 12th, 2004 11:26 amI edited about 65 pages of Blue Eyes this weekend. My computer at home swears that it is 345 pages long. I think it's lying, or at the very least exaggerating due to it's interpretation of the space and a half format.
And
crankygrrl and
searose, you both made me blush with the lovely things you said about it. That means the world to me, so thank you!!
I love certain sentences, certain moments and am such a baby about them that I've taken to putting the cut sections into Notepad just in case I can work them in again. This is more than mildly counterproductive:) The first step towards recovery is admitting you have a problem, though, right?
I'm savoring
searose's A Rumpus, A Ruckus and Sancho Panza to the Rescue. I'm sure she wishes I was doing a lot less savoring and a lot more feedbacking. But honestly, as of yet, I don't have suggestions for improvement. It's tightly written, clever, funny, biting and plows along at warp speed, and she's yet to drop the plot ball. I'm more than a little awed.
Watched much Season 1 Farscape this weekend. I'm very fond of some of the early eps, and getting to watch them on DVD is just a visceral pleasure. So is getting the extended scenes. Many of them just build the character relationships so beautifully that it's a shame they got axed for advertising space. Particularly They've Got A Secret, Rhapsody in Blue and 'Til the Blood Runs Clear. The Crichton/Aeryn moments are just gorgeous, and yes I'm a sucker, but this built the obsession. They're so beautifully uncertain of each other, yet clearly compelled and the actors just play that with such gorgeous subtlety. They also piss each other off like adolescents and I love that just as much. The character development, in all the characters, was really stunning in Season 1, slow and sure and liable to go in any direction.
I bought new CD's. The Tom McRae self titled CD, Hem Rabbit Songs, and Iron and Wine The Creek Drank the Cradle. All stellar purchases. However, I managed to get myself a parking ticket. This was completely my fault, unfortunately. Sometimes common sense just doesn't follow me home.
Watched Alias. Nothing to say that hasn't been said before by more articulate fans, except I hate that they've made Lauren evil. I feel like the writers were afraid to give her an actual character. I mean how much more tension could they ratchet up by having her actually be who she seems, someone who thinks she's doing the right thing, who loves Vaughn. Wouldn't a betrayal of that kind of character ratchet up far more angst than saying, "Oh, Vaughn's wife is evil, therefore it's okay to have Sidney and Vaughn be together." They make such a point of erasing the repurcussions of anything that Sydney does, whitewashing her until she's almost unlikeable. I liked that she hated Vaughn's wife because she'd married Vaughn. That felt real to me and created some sympathy. Now, not so much.
I danced this weekend and my body was unbelievably thankful, although my calves are currently asking about my mental stability. Three weeks is far too long to be away from ballet.
Oh, also, go read
kixxa's Scorpius: The Musical. It's brilliant, hysterical and just really undescribable:)

Date: 2004-01-12 01:04 pm (UTC)I'm kind of enjoying the edit because I've never read it as a whole and have been pleased to discover that while there are problems, it hangs together well and doesn't read as choppily as I had feared.

Date: 2004-01-12 12:54 pm (UTC)I do the exact same thing with copying cut sentences over. ;) I just diced a scene in Bed of Roses and loved part of it so much I clipped it out and reworked it into a new scene so I could keep the same sentiment, just without the clunky over-exposition.
I realized the other day when beta'ing Dead Languages that I don't have your email and while I'm pretty sure of the Latin parts, I'd still love for you to just look and say "yep, now why did you bother me?" *g* So if you could send a line to kerlinssw[at]hotmail.com, I'd appreciate it.
