Triumph over the DSL, Day 2
Aug. 19th, 2003 11:29 amSo far, we're still connected. No one knows why we weren't, or how to prevent such a thing from happening in the future. Gotta love a little mystery in our lives.
And before I forget, Happy Belated Birthday to
themoonbar. May the upcoming year be filled with lots of good, shiny, pretty things for you.
vonnielake is decontructing the origin of certain phrases on her LJ, including snark, which some brilliant and informed person has shown to be an actual word. I remember reading Entertainment Weekly several years ago and repeatedly commenting on their use of that word by saying, that's not a real word. They made it up on TV!! Apparently, I was wrong:)
I was actually useful and productive yesterday. I went to the store, went to Rite-Aid and didn't yell at anyone and was very calm when the cashier said that she'd put my request to only give me the inside packet for my pills instead of the plastic case in the computer. Every month it's the same request, but I'm determined. Someday, I will triumph.
I even made dinner, cool orzo salad with tuna and fresh green beans, eggs, capers, artichoke hearts, fresh lemon juice and olive oil. And did the Pilates tape that I hate, but ballet is on hiatus. I tried to do some pointe work in the living room, but the unevenness of our floors, and the madcap feline adventures convinced me that mostly, I was just risking a broken ankle or a broken neck.
And because I'm a masochist, watched the CSI:Miami with BB, which I had missed before. I happily watch the original show if I'm home on Thursday night. There's not much character development, but the actors are watchable and the storylines are pretty good, but CSI: Miami mostly makes my stomach turn. It's way too graphic, and the plots are really bad, and someone needs to just smack David Caruso, or at least tell him that one note acting is not being a bad ass, it's just being a boring actor.
The storyline for this ep. was tasteless, for one thing, considering the actual club fire that occurred, and it was just dumb. I often find their logic faulty, and this was no exception and as much as I adore BB, I almost didn't make it all the way through the ep. And who the hell wouldn't hire him as a fireman? He could just stand around in the fireman's outfit and gain them some nice publicity. And the costumers made him wear that baggy shirt, so I couldn't even really lust appropriately, but at least there was a little arm flexing. And the damn shirt was too long. The man needs to be in tight clothing, dammit!
Sigh. I'm glad he got work, and he made the scenes he was in bearable, but I had the same problem I always have watching people who really inhabit other roles in my head, and that was saying, "He can't be a bad guy, he's John Crichton, he'd never be that dumb:) I need more than five or ten minutes of airtime to get over this, although I never really have in watching David Duchovny in things, but Gillian Anderson totally sold me on Lily Bart and I've watched Pitch Black several times without a problem, although I always look away when CB gets killed.

Date: 2003-08-19 12:05 pm (UTC)CSI: Miami is so unbelievably bad. There really are no words. But I have to say, the TWoP recap of Ben's ep is priceless. You might want to check it out.

Date: 2003-08-19 12:19 pm (UTC)And let me warn you, when the phone company gets involved, no good can come of things. Good luck with your DSL getting fixed! (My personal theory is that the wiring reacts very, very negatively to heat, which the tech support guy at Speakeasy supported, but no one else has! He said that a customer would lose connection at her house everytime the sun would hit her wiring at a certain time of day! )

Date: 2003-08-19 12:39 pm (UTC)David Caruso-horrid actor, huge ego. He stunk up the place on NYPD Blue and his subsequent movies. I so miss Jimmy Smits on NYPD Blue.
You're dinner description has made me hungry. It sounded very good. And of course, tonight's the only night I work at my second job and I really want to cook now!

Date: 2003-08-19 01:11 pm (UTC)The dinner was very easy to prepare if you get a chance (I'd had the salad with rice and red bell peppers a few days ago, but I'm not a fan of rice or cooked peppers, so I just made a few changes to suit my palate). Had it with a nice, dry rose on a really warm evening!

He can't deliver any of his lines with believability. I know he didn't write them ... "and the building will be our witness" (gag!) ... but most actors at least try to say their lines as if they weren't asleep!
"He can't be a bad guy, he's John Crichton, he'd never be that dumb:)
lol -- yes, & it was so obviously him, too *g*
too bad he wasn't decked out in leather ...
Ben did a really good job with what he was given though. :) *and* CSI:Miami is a highly rated show (hope the ratings for last night's ep were good) ... or so I've been told. ;) Should lead to better jobs.
Did you notice the name of the DJ? hehehe
