Weekend's Are All About Food
Sep. 10th, 2007 01:47 pmActually, that's not technically true. My weekends tend to be more about me desperately trying to balance out my work:not work ratio.
Things accomplished this weekend:
1. Concvinced TimeWarner Cable to give me Showtime for the same price I'm paying for what we get now (which is to say highway robbery, but now highway robbery with Dexter and This American Life. This would all be more exciting if the TV were more watchable, but we've gotten a lovely offer of a TV to borrow if M. agrees and will help me collect it.
(On a side note, we went to see The Nines this weekend, which has a killer opening. Absolutely killer, and the friend loaning me the TV requested that if I got mad at him, I refrain from setting the TV on fire. As I'm sure that with my luck, the same thing that happened to Ryan Reynolds would happen to me, I agreed that I could probably do that. The movie itself was a great set up, and interesting, but ultimately unsatisfying. Set ups so rarely match the reveal. And it was a great set up, let me tell you.)
2. Went to writer's group! Yeah writer's group. I'm coming along slowly on the short story, but I am coming and when I finish it, I will get the Calliope tattoo on my hip to prove I can finish something. Unfortunately, due to me teaching the night before, and staying up watching, and sleeping through, and watching again, and sleeping through the first ep of Dexter, I had to get up VERY FUCKING EARLY to write.
3. Saw The Nines. See above. Also, Ryan Reynolds? Very, very pretty? And actually talented. Who knew? Ate unbelievable sushi. Best sushi I've had. Sushi that made me want to lie on the sushi bar so people could eat it off my body sushi. (I normally wouldn't want to be covered in raw fish, but this transcended ordinary raw fish rules). I am not hard core about sushi. I get nervous at the chef's choice places because there is ALWAYS something I don't like. But this sushi chef was fabulous (and female) and careful, and did not mock me for refusing the sea urchin or not wanting that thing that gets gummy and expansive in your mouth. Mmmm. So good. Plus, excellent cold sake. Yummy sigh.
4. Failed to meet
iamsab for brunch due to unexpected TRIATHLON traffic. Stupid triathlon. There was going to be magic bacon!! Actually, brunch was still superb - lemon ricotta pancakes and good coffee and mint lemonade but a bit rushed because I had to work at noon. I love brunch. It's one of my favorite things ever and I'm so glad that I'm trying to make time for it these days.
5. Work. Way, way too much work for a Sunday, enough so that I was a whimpering tired mess by the time I got home to sleep through another episode of Dexter. (I'm not bored, but evenings lately have meant me passed out in a prone position).
All in all, a stellar weekend.
To come, "What fandome has given me. A List.", plus introducing non-SF readers to SF and how I ended up on nipple patrol. But first, the news.
