So I got questions (HARD HARD QUESTIONS) from [livejournal.com profile] wearemany:

1. what is your favorite restaurant in LA?

Oh man, such a hard question. There are lots of places in LA that I love for various reasons. I love the martinis at Vermont, and I like their food, but don't love it. We ate at Cube on Saturday, and gorged on exotic cheeses and I really, really loved that, but you have to bring your own wine (which would have been fine but we didn't actually know this fact first). There's a yummy discount sushi place in Reseda, but well, it's Reseda. Reseda totally does not count. I think probably my favorite place that brings together all of the things I love about both Los Angeles and food is the restaurant connected to Monsieur Marcel in the Farmer's Market at the Grove because they have wine and they have cheese and pretty little french salads and happy hours and it's happy and sunny in there during the summer.

Or maybe the Sidewalk Cafe on Venice Beach where I have whiled away many an afternoon drinking margaritas and watching the crazy and beautiful walk by.

2. mountains or oceans

I'm totally going to cheat and say Southern California where I can have both.

3. do you believe in happily ever after?

Well, both more and less so than I used to. I believe in the idea that you can find the kind of deeply satisfying happiness that encompasses people who bring joy and pleasure and adventure and confusion into your life, that you can find work that's meaningful, that you can create a space that brings in and gives back, and again, that all comes back to the people you surround yourself with.

Right now, I'm happy in a way that I'd never expected to be, while still wanting a whole slew of things that feel desperately out of reach - a kid, a stable relationship, a house in the hills. A 401K. But I've got this amazing place (real and virtual) with these amazing people. I have this strange and nutty and kind of fascinating job and these odd and fullfilling hobbies and well, these people.

I don't believe in the kind of make one decision have a happy ending sort of happily ever after, but I do believe it's always something worth reaching for, something worth celebrating as the definition of it changes.

4. one exotic animal (as seen on planet earth, for example) that you wish you could have as a pet

The little bat-eared fox that's half way between a cat and a dog and sort of hops around like a combination of both and neither. Plus, if our cable went out, you could totally use him as an antenna!

5. one totally insane fantasy career you wish you had pursued years ago

Barrel racer! I'd totally have been a cowgirl who barrel-raced, but with better hair.

(The real answer is that I sort of maybe wish I would have followed my instincts and gone to Journalism school and started my writing career earlier and with more formal training, but that's less a fantasy than I potential path that I deliberately chose not to follow and that I'm actually okay with).

I'd love to see someone answer these questions for me!! That's what y'all should do to entertain me!!
