Actually, this brings me to an embarrassing confession. I had to retape Relativity last night because months and months ago, in an attempt to draw in a TVless friend of mine I was trying to show her the scene from Meltdown when Aeryn slides her hand over that ass. Something that has been rewatched many a time, let me tell you. Unfortunately, I turned the VCR off after rewinding the tape, thinking I was turning off the TV and it recorded Dragon Ball Z over the entire tape. I don't know if that's karmic punishment for thinking lustful thoughts, or just a sign that I shouldn't drink wine and try to pimp television shows based on the glory of leather pants.
Anyway, .
The squealing of shippers world wide echoed through the lines when this aired. It's a great episode, tense and compelling, and of course features the continual Rygel/Stark show. It also has such great Crichton/Crias moments, all that male hostility and aggression finally having a venue to be expressed in. John enjoys tormenting Crais just a little too much, and he's such the All American boy here, trying to be protective of Aeryn, ranting and fuming, reacting on Harvey and instinct, and of course there's is that calm, cold, terrifying relationship that is Xhalax and Aeryn.
Happy reunion thoughts disappear immediately. And no one doubts Aeryn when she says she's not flinching. She learned her lesson in DMD, and Talyn's safety is infinitely important to her. But that moment when Xhalax is unconscious and Aeryn reaches towards her scar, all the weight inherent to that moment, it's just heartbreaking, and the slow motion of John stepping up to the plate, finally protecting her in the only way he can, leading her away from that final death. The performances were just fantastic and always make me ache for them. Aeryn's final words are also such perfect foreshadowing for the end of the season, all my ties have been severed, well, love, not yet, not completely. Never say never, and the two shot of the two of them, foreheads together, pain and love, and you know things are going to end badly.
