In case, you know, we're called on to pair up the animals and float out of here.

I live on a Canyon. Said canyon was awash yesterday and I've never been so frelling greatful to live on the slightly seedy part of the street. Sigh. Got stuck driving up there yesterday, had to turn around. Mud, tons of mud, felled trees and the beat of rain, the cloud cover haze and it's hard to remember this is southern California. The getting trapped was largely my fault, as I'd ignore the signs and followed maintenance trucks up the hill. I was not the only dumb ass though. Which is one of the perks of living in L.A. There is always someone more foolish than yourself doing the exact same thing you're doing.

Spent 7 hours at the studio on Saturday, came home and collapsed.

Got up yesterday morning to discover water, water everywhere. I've mentioned that my landlord is a moron, yes?

Our internet just returned, so I'm rushing off to finish my nominations for The Sparkys.

I've begun working on the novel, decided to see how far I could get with Mei because I've been thinking about her for nearly two years and Katie's story will wait. Didn't get all that far because I'm nearly done with the Not Sex, so very close and why is it that this last section, the section based on actual events is so much harder than the sections I made up out of whole cloth and UST?

Hope everyone else in L.A. is safe and sound, dry and warm, or in possession of really, really big buckets. M. has been using our Britta reservoirs to catch the drips. We filled up two already. This is largely because I seem to have lost our bucket. And I mean I in the context of M.

Watched Dawn of the Dead last night and our house went completely black 10 minutes before the end, right after Anna spoiler ) We have no ambient light in our house and it was dark as pitch. I was very proud of myself for not screaming, but I did giggle when M. used his lighter with the flashing neon Santa to stumble around and find the flashlight. I really enjoyed the movie, though, even though it was incredibly gross.

I've gotten info for two seperate MFA programs in SoCal - CalARts and Otis. I don't know anyone who's attended either, but the brochures are so intriguing. However, I need a portfolio of Creative Writing and I'm at somewhat of a loss. I have a professional portfolio, but it's all nonfiction. Sigh, I suppose I could scavenge from the better parts of my thesis. Perhaps use the Odysseus piece? Argh. Maybe the novel will really take off in the next week. But that sounds like wishful thinking.
