Looking around nervously

This is a big step, a public forum, to talk about obsessions, interests, this weird and wonderful opportunity and the communities I've seen form and been awfully intimidated to join. I love the idea of being part of something, and will feel less scared of leaving comments and less like a voyeur now that I am part of this vast network to. I'm pretty unsavvy when it comes to technology. My Mac works beautifully, happily buzzing along in it's Jaguar tinted world, but I've never posted anything online until today, have no idea how to program html, to create or update or even download icons, and well, I guess I'll either learn, or appreciate other people's creativity even more.
So here's a little personal offering; a few things I love in the public eye.
Top Three Things I can think of off hand for each category
Musicians-
Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds because KCRW played him this morning and it reminded me of how much I love Murder Ballads and how much it creeps me out.
Writers - Mark Helprin(arch-conservative that he is, his prose makes me weep and soar), Wallace Stegner, Elizabeth Peters
Movies - Lawrence of Arabia, Aliens, Holiday
Television - Farscape, Futurama, X-Files ( and cooking shows - better than porn)
Artists - I have a real Classical Education - Greek, Latin, the works, so I'm gonna lump classical art and architecture in one. Anyone who's ever stood inside the Pantheon would classify it as art, Bernini - if for no other reason than the elephant that stands in front of Santa Maria Maggiore with it's butt facing Bernini's nemesis, Picasso - I'm a sucker for abstract art
So that's a little intro. I hope to use this as a forum to read and write and talk about pop culture and high culture and how to not be lost in the morass of technology I've entered into.
