Mmm. It's gorgeous here, warm and sunny and lush (and I talked to my Mom yesterday and it was sadly snowing in CO, well raining with intent:) Do I miss late spring storms, with heavy thick flakes of snow, damp with water, soppy and sloppy, but unbelieveably lovely? No, I really, really don't.
For anyone in the greater Los Angeles area, this weekend is the L.A. Times Festival of Books at UCLA. If you've never been, it's a lot of fun. UCLA is a beautiful campus, and seeing it filled to the brim with books, and authors and enthusiastic readers is just such a joy. We rarely get to go, and so I want to encourage others to go so I can live vicariously. The last time we went, we stood in line to see Michael Chabon, met George Plimpton and showed him the children's book I'd just bought on coyotes (so wow, that means the last time we went was probably 2001 or 2002).
There's food and readings (although you need tickets), but authors run amok, being less well behaved then actors and preferring to escape their handlers, and all in all it's a very nice day. And the children's area is also a lot of fun:)
Huge shoutout of thanks to
riarambles for the super quick, and very thorough beta of the Remix story! It's a relief to be done, even though, once again, I'm kind of straining the Remix concept. As
rubberneck said though, it's a growth experience.
Taught bellydancing last night, and am teaching again on Monday. I had a really small class, and managed to confuse them thoroughly because of my catlike distraction:) (Hee and so channeling Futurama - It's true, all of it, my female incompotence, Zap's catlike reflexes, all that stuff in the middle that made no sense - it's all true. Hee:)
Monday's class is a little more staid. They get really panicked if I try and teach 'em something new:) They get these big round doe eyes when we do chest shimmies because their regular teacher doesn't do 'em. I love freakin' them out:)

Date: 2004-04-23 11:35 am (UTC)I'm starting to get excited about seeing all the Remixes when they're posted. I think the concept is stretchy enough to take in a lot of interpretations, as long as there's come comparison and familiarity between the two stories (if that makes any sense--the remix can be totally different from the original as long as it hinges to it somehow).
Now if only I could think of a title/subtitle for mine 8 ( Hmmm. That will be my task for tonight, I think, on the drive home.
I wonder who got me? I feel kinda sorry for the poor fuck. I know I'm just itching to out myself to the person I got, to the point of restraining myself from commenting in her journal using subliminal icons.

Date: 2004-04-23 11:49 am (UTC)I'm having the same problem. All of the plays on the original title don't make any sense for the story:) Normally, I don't let that bother me, but you know:)

Exactly. It's so hard to not poke them and say, hey, hey!! I got you! i have similar sympathies for whoever got me. Based on the laws of the universe, it's bound to be someone with an aversion to both J/A and porn:)

Date: 2004-04-23 04:05 pm (UTC)And chest shimmies frighten the poor students? Aww. Have you ever seen "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark"? The title's something like that, anyway. It's a totally cheesy and cute movie, ending with an eye-catching performance by the titular actress. Man, her breasts had amazing talent.

Date: 2004-04-23 04:11 pm (UTC)It's more that you have to learn how to do the chest shimmies without moving anything else but the chest:) It freaks 'em out to see boobs moving independently:)

And you said boobs!
