Am beyond exhausted and am also completely to blame for this state. The boys put together their first film festival, a collection of shorts that was shown at a bar in West Hollywood. It was very well done, and a helluva good time, but I had too much of a good time, especially for a Tuesday night. Too little sleep. Far too many cigarettes. And the realization that tequila, red wine, and vodka are a really bad combination. I'm too old to be learning this lesson again.
Oh, and finally, after years and years of trying, embarrassed M. in public by talking loudly about vibrators with C. while we bought tangerine juice at Ralph's. There weren't very many other people around, but had he not looked so embarrassed, I'm sure we wouldn't have continued the conversation. It's doubtful that we would have started the conversation. But honestly, this was information that needed to be shared, and we continued the discussion once we got to the after party for the film festival and I learned several things. And I got to see M. blush after years of being places with him and having him do or say outrageous things. Sometimes karma is my friend.
And now that I've horrifed most of my flist and convinced you all that I'm too trashy to be believed, I'll move on. Really, I'm relatively quiet and a little reserved in person. Don't let my inappropriate behavior scare you off:)
So, on to fandom working for me. G.'s girlfriend is not my greatest fan, and I've very much tried to be nice to her. She doesn't make it easy, and I am perhaps a reluctant participator as well, but last night I was determined, and remembered that G. had mentioned her love of The West Wing, so I mostly tackled her and forced her to talk about it:) And there was bonding! She is also much enamoured of Sports Night. We're going to do more bonding next Wednesday, with WW, and possibly more vodka, and possibly some discussion of G. (although I fervently hope it doesn't come to that:) But, fandom is indeed a unifying force, doing good in the universe in unexpected ways and I'm going to pimp both Farscape and Firefly to her in exchange for the Sports Night DVD's and the WW DVD's so I can listen to the commentaries. She also likes the commentaries on things as much as I do. Why is it that frequently I end up liking the new girlfriends of ex-boyfriends better than I liked the ex-boyfriends when they weren't exes? So, I've done my bit for fandom this week:)
I caved, read the chat transcript. Laughed my ass off and so, so wanted to hug everyone involved. They are just beyond adorable, and I feel like a teenager, squirrely and squirmy and giggly that my TV crushes are nice people, funny people, goofy and sincere and snarky. And that I was not spoiled for anything in the mini because I don't want to know!! No spoilers I tell you. I'm probably gonna have to hide for all of September but I have no willpower, none whatsoever, no resistance to temptation.

Date: 2004-04-21 02:40 pm (UTC)Am reading M. Lawrence books, as suggested. They're interesting enough, although I'm not in love with them.

Date: 2004-04-21 03:18 pm (UTC)Yeah for reading M. Lawerence. The books aren't particularly warm. They're not lush like Sara Donati, but in some ways they strike me as more of a realistic portrait of that era than Into the Wilderness did. Also, mysteries. The last book in the series isn't a mystery, but I'm blanking on the name. It's really lovely though, has a different feel, but doesn't make sense unless you've read the earlier ones.
Sara Donati is talking about fictional heroes and heroines in her blog, and coincidentally referring to both Hannah and Elizabeth as well as other characters. It's very interesting.

Date: 2004-04-21 03:15 pm (UTC)Ooh, goody! *What she said* to all of the above! LOL! I, too, wish not to be mini-spoiled, and I wish to huggle and cuddle and shqueeze Browder and Black til they plead for more, and who are indeed a-DOR-able!
A-DOR-able is what CB says Hollywood thinks she is - I think she confuses them ~snerk~

Hee. And there was much giggling over the feeding the baby to Moya lines.

Date: 2004-04-21 06:15 pm (UTC)I'm with you in the no spoiler camp. I did tell myself last night that I'd deal with it if they revealed something, but I didn't figure they'd give away all that much.
Talking vibrators in Ralph's...heeheehee...too funny.

Date: 2004-04-22 10:40 am (UTC)And yeah, tequila is a definite tongue loosener. Not that I'd necessarily have problems with talking about vibrators at Ralph's completely sober, but I might have been a little quieter:)

Date: 2004-04-21 07:57 pm (UTC)The old vibrator discussion huh? I love that one, especially when you start talking about speeds and attachments. *snicker*
Personally for embrassment of the male species I like the gyn/speculum convo myself which can segueway into a prostate convo leading to various stimulations and assorted sexual positions. All said in a louder than normal voice. 'natch. *bg*
Yes I am evil. Wanna join my club?

Date: 2004-04-22 10:36 am (UTC)Absolutely! Do I get a funny hat! And a secret handshake:)
M. pretends that he's the picture of nonchalance. I didn't think a little old thing like a vibrator would embarras him:)
And I'm sure someone, somewhere thought I was a responsible adult:)
