The Internets Can Help Me Dress

First, I must add to the seriously, WTF category. Too far away boy (who has more or less stood me up 3 times - not as dire as it seems since I didn't have to go anywhere for him to flake) has just texted to see if I have plans tonight. You're cute Too Far Away boy, but really, no one's that cute, and yes, I haven't had sex since January, but I'm not 19 anymore and have the funds and resources to take care of that problem manually. Have a nice life. The eye rolling is not even sufficient.

Second, the real training for the marathon starts tomorrow. I am nervous and excited, I think. Plus, I need to put a poster up at work to harass my colleagues into donating even if that makes me vastly uncomfortable. I am not a workplace sharer, for the most part. It's taken me two years to actually feel close enough to one of my colleagues to invite her to my house. The prospect of explaining family circumstances and personal goals and motivations is sort of horrifying? Am I freakish this way, or is it normal? Of course, people I've been close to are also often surprised by my family circumstances and some of my personal stuff, so perhaps I'm just not much of a sharer in general, except for here.

Finally, my younger step-sister is getting married mid-June in Colorado. As they are all freakish and toned and healthy, it is going to be an outdoor wedding. Despite the fact that it'll mostly be family and therefore there will be no one around to appreciate me looking fabulous, I wish to do so anyway, which is where you, oh internet come in. I've been trolling for dresses, and have run across three that are catching my eye (actually, two caught my eye in person yesterday at Macy's - they both look better on than in the photo).

Silk Sheath Dress (At Macy's it was pink, and quite fetching on)

Max Studio Babydoll in Green (I tried it in green, and would be partial to green or blue).

Super Green and flouncy - beautiful back on this one.

Blue party dress!!

Pink and polka dots,(sadly not a contender. It doesn't ship until August!)

Gorgeous, but silk, and therefore impractical

Alright internets, any favorites? Any dark horses? Any suggestions of things you've seen? I'm looking for something less than $200 and much as I love black, I'm not wearing black to my little sister's afternoon wedding in the mountains! Odds are, aside from the bride, I'll also be the only one in heels.

Tooooo many good choices!!

I really like both of the strapless ones, but that first one is so classic and wonderful. Have you tried the J. Crew one on in person? Try that on!

[identity profile] thassalia.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I know? That Tahari blue strapless dress is just gorgeous, but might be too short on me, whereas the JCrew will be a good length, and possibly a more practical dress as they're both silk!!

I really like the first one, but the two strapless ones are very cute. I'd go with the bow, unless that's too flouncy for your style, in which case the streamlined J. Crew one.

I'm jealous! I'm actually wearing a pretty silk win-colored Banana Republic dress tomorrow, but I want more pretties too.

[identity profile] thassalia.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
the bow is not at all too flouncy for me:)

The first one actually looks really stunning on and in pink, but I love the party dress feel of the others!

And yeah for pretty pretty dresses.

The first dress is really sexy, but I love the back on the third one and I think you could pull it off, from what I remember about you. In conclusion, the last one.

Hee.

I want to abolish baby doll dresses, so I vote no on that one *g*. I think my favorites were the first and third.

[identity profile] thassalia.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Mostly, I agree with the baby dolls, but there are a few of them (that one included) that hang well and are sexy to wear, particularly in the summer. But mostly I agree!

The second, third, and sixth are my favorites, and look to be without awkward fit issues (though I could be wrong).

Ohh! I LOVE the first and the last one -- and I find silk always awesome; why not?

Also adore pink. What's your colouring? I could wear the cold-colour pink in the last one but think the first blue is a bit too bright for my summer tones (pale skin, green eyes, dark ash-blond hair).

I like the Donna Rico one best, it's tasteful and a lovely color. The second one looks a bit tacky. The third one, Bluefly, is a very pretty dress, but too short. The fourth is nice, although the big bow puts me off, but you could carry it off, I think. The last one (not the polka-dot!) is very stylish.

I like 2 and 3, Max Studio & Super Flouncy! I think the third is better for a wedding.

This one by a mile.

Blue party dress! Blue party dress! Big awesome bow and strapless!

[identity profile] thassalia.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, I'm super fond of the bow!!!

I feel like I should come up to where you live and look at some of the shops there before I decide though. Although, as I lack your sleek hipster frame, they're generally less forgiving for my size:)

[identity profile] iamsab.livejournal.com 2008-05-16 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh oh oh, no, let me take you to some good places! We can do vintage or boutique-hipster-new AND I can get you in under 200 bucks. This wknd? Tomorrow? Or Sunday before Liz's show? Or, you know, now?>

Now!! i'm almost done with work! So call me!

FWIW, I agree with Kerne's choices. I'd pick the Donna Ricco one for you (and think the blue would be a really good choice for you.) It's very classy in a not-at-all-stuffy way. I definitely wouldn't pick a short babydoll dress.

I like number ! the best. It would be even better in pink.

[identity profile] fourteenlines.livejournal.com 2008-05-17 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
I may be in the minority, but I kind of find the Donna Rico dress a bit...boring? Too conservative for the way I imagine you dress, anyway. *g*

I think babydoll dresses should be abolished for anyone over 22, so I vote no on that one. I actually think my favorite is the green Tahari dress, although I do see how it could be too short. (Depends on your opinion of shortness in re: formal dress.)

If you can pull off strapless (I can't) then my vote is for the magenta J.Crew dress. I think silk chiffon is a lot more practical than you might imagine. I have a silk chiffon dress that I took to Europe with me, and it did just fine rolled up in my bag.

Have you tried on the blue strapless Tahari dress? I think it's a bit busy, but I've learned that I, at least, can't wear anything that has a bow right there - it's the thinnest part of me, and putting something that billows right there makes me look even heavier than I am. *g* But it is very pretty, if you've tried it on and like it (although I still think I like the strapless J.Crew dress better.)

[identity profile] thassalia.livejournal.com 2008-05-17 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
The Donna Rico looks far snazzier on than in the picture (and I wouldn't get it unless I got the fuschia).

The babydolls get a bad rap - largely because they look lousy on most people, but when they're well cut, they can be utterly charming in good fabrics. This one is really lovely one and the green is stunning and shimmery:)

I'd have to try the Tahari on, and I'm not at all worried about the other green being too short:)

but yeah, I think the fuschia JCrew may be the way to go!!

[identity profile] projectcyborg.livejournal.com 2008-05-17 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
you always look gorgeous!

but I emphatically vote GIANT BOW! green-and-flouncy is nice but would have to be braless which seems impractical.

or whatever [livejournal.com profile] iamsab helps you pick out! I got the most awesomest silk dress to wear to a wedding at the half-off store when I was there.

[identity profile] thedorkygirl.livejournal.com 2008-05-17 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm loving the green and flouncy one. Not too fancy, but it stands out. It also covers enough of your chest and shoulders for an alluring, what have we here? sort of look.

[identity profile] haphazardmethod.livejournal.com 2008-05-18 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Super green and flouncy or gorgeous and impractical. Not the babydoll unless the wedding is in Reno. I really really like the polka dot one.

[identity profile] thassalia.livejournal.com 2008-05-19 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the polka dotted one. Stupid dress not shipping until August!
