Happy Valentine's Day
First up, some clean up and thank yous:
First, happy belated birthdays to both
kernezelda and
danceswithwords. I hope the coming year brings you nothing but joy and adventure.
Second, huge, huge hugs and smooshy, sloppy thank yous and kisses to Kerne and to
simplystars. Y’all are the best and I love you dearly.
So far, my Valentine’s Day is going as expected – a mixture of hilarity and frustration. I'm feeling lonely, but fortunately not alone. I’m reminding myself of all the people and things I love: my family, my flist, insane cats 1 & 2, M. on his good days, the godchild, the niece and nephew, the new car which still, astonishingly, starts when I turn over the ignition. This is not an insignificant list.
So a list of random people and things I love, both real and imaginary:
* Bob Dylan – the man, the myth, the music. I love that his songs have been signposts and rail stops for me, heartache and peace, joy and absurdity. They’ve woken me up, laid me to sleep, been with me when I cried, and raged, and wanted to change the world, and wanted nothing more than to change myself. I love that he’s always taken his own journey, however weird or complex or inexplicable. Here’s to you Bob.
* Driving along the PCH on Saturday morning when the sun is big and bright, making the water glitter like a movie set, the rush of being so close to the ocean that it would take only a parked car and abandoned shoes to feel it on my skin.
* Words. So many words – words from songs, from books, from other people, from poetry, from the television, from my head. All those words, constantly guiding me, even when they nudge me off course, tempt me to the badlands.
* Buying beer off the internet. Seriously. I love that the internet will bring me anything I ask – both literally and figuratively.
* Snow. In the theoretical, crystalline quiet sense, when everything smells clean and untouched, when everything looks perfect. And when I don’t have to fucking shovel it or dig my car out of it.
* Television. My shows. Oh my shows.
* Aeryn Sun, Zoe Washburn, Princess Leia, Harriet Vane, (maybe, maybe Sarah Connor. I never imprinted on her in the movies so much because I wasn’t a fan of Linda Hamilton, but I love the IDEA of her, and so far, TSCC is rockin’ my world), Ellen Ripley – without reservation, Dana Scully, Susan and Lucy Pevensie, Eowyn, Lorelai Gilmore, Paris Gellar, Laura Roslin, Trixie Belden, Victoria Bliss, Jacqueline Kirby, Laura Holt. All these women and girls owned themselves, learned and grew and fought and made me proud to be who I was. Someone with uneasy tears, someone with conviction, curiosity, sexuality, intelligence, pride and fear. Someone who could love, and believe, and object, and doubt, and trust, ultimately, in myself.
* John Crichton, D'Argo, Wash (sorry Captain Tightpants? So not for me.), Fox Mulder, John Smith, Peter Wimsey, Luke Daines, Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo and all the other TV and book and media boyfriends who provided eye candy, a healthy dose of insanity, and the sort of unobjective, unhindered and unhinged love and loyalty that we all want and that is never, ever a great idea in real life.
*My shoes. Yes, I realize this is both absurd and cliché, but it’s my list.
So, tell me something or someone you love, unobjectively, and with great glee!
First, happy belated birthdays to both

You, hon. Reading your words, be they fiction or fact or phantasmagorical.
New glee: Californication and TSCC. Also Torchwood, Dexter, Pushing Daisies, Psych, Burn Notice, and Mike Rowe.

--The way you put words down on paper, Thea. Seriously. You make me smile and laugh and cry and think about the things I love.
--John Crichton, always. Good, bad, right, wrong, crazy, sane, sad, happy, pissy, caring, selfish…I love all of him.
--Ben Browder. Because he’s intelligent and articulate and smart and funny and he’ll dress up in a big ol’ bunny suit and let people laugh at him. And he’s got an awesome smile and very pretty, pretty eyes.
New glee: Friday Night Lights. Flaws and all, I will love this show and these characters forever.

Dude, on a scrapbooking website they had a photo challenge to take a photo of something you love, and the VERY FIRST thing that came to mind was my shoes. It's not absurd! It's true. Shoes rock my world. I also love my dad; my city on days it's not hazy and sometimes even when it is; the smell of laundry fresh from the dryer; chocolate; Souplantation, and of course my friends, both on- and off-line.

Also loving iTunes because in addition to procuring almost any music I fancy, now there's Farscape.
I adore
Happy Valentine's Day to you...you know, if you like that sort of thing : )
