Gratitude, The Not Quite Facetious Remix
Aug. 8th, 2006 01:10 pmThings for which I am grateful:
1. That I was merely backing out of my driveway this morning when my shifting cable snapped, thereby taking out my neighbor's gate, but not a fleet of nuns. Or a small dog. Or a semi.
2. That AAA seems invested in me, as I am invested in them and sends lovely drivers to help me out of these sorts of messes. Pity they can't fix my parking tickets while they're at it. Also, I learned to use the electric winch on the tow truck, and now know to ask for the tow truck with the flatbed and not just the draggy behind the truck thingy.
3. That it's a beautiful day in Southern California, thus facilitating me walking the three miles to work in my flip flops, hauling the laptop because I thought maybe I'd sit at the mechanics and write. There was no place to sit.
4. That I am healthy and stubborn enough to leg it to work and delusional enough to assume that I will figure out a way home if they haven't fixed the car by this afternoon, and to get back there tomorrow morning.
5. That I have a job where no one's life is at stake and could be two and a half hours late, although this probably will forestall me calling in sick on Thursday to play with my godchild. Her mother will be suitably annoyed. I'm suitably annoyed.
6. That it was merely the shifting cable and not the whole clutch, because adding several thousands of dollars to the vast pool of debt I'm swimming in may have made me take up that walking into the desert pilgrimage and this will only make me weepy.
So, think good thoughts for my car, and please send offerings of cheer me up or make me laugh at something aside from myself:)

Date: 2006-08-08 09:21 pm (UTC)Depending on when you need to be at work, I can give you a ride in the morning. Alas, since I typically work late, I'm not sure. But let me know, and I've got my fingers crossed for your poor car, as I'm all too familiar with that situation. :(
We need to go see a movie and get lunch, my treat, soon.

Date: 2006-08-08 09:31 pm (UTC)(Hopefully, the getting to and fro will be okay, and the walking wasn't at all bad this morning, just unexpected and sloggish. It's warm and if I hadn't had the computer it would've been fine. But I so appreciate the offer!)
