My office is freezing, far beyond any air-conditioning the summer may warrant (and this being Southern California, aside from our heat wave of a few weeks ago, summer is fairly temperate). I can barely feel my fingers. Err, grr to freezing during August.

I'm left adrift, reading-wise, after finishing The Jane Austen Book Club. I want something that catches me up that swiftly. What are the rest of you reading this summer? What's knocked your socks off?

There's not even fic to distract me. Sigh. Weirdly, my fic desires are focusing more and more on the possibilities opening in S10 of SG-1. Trust me to want fic for the fandom that's sort of slowly backing away. Grrr.

I have been OD'ing on the Tenth Doctor (watched The Christmas Invasion through Rise of The Cyberman last night). I can't remember who was commenting, but if someone could point me in that direction, I'd be grateful. I adored 9. I still think of him as "My Doctor", but these episodes are tackling entirely different issues and themes and I think I have to join with [livejournal.com profile] iamsab in my giddy love for 10 and for David Tenant who is really quite marvelous in an entirely different way from Christopher Eccleston. [livejournal.com profile] lizlet, you were so very right. There's no need to choose!

There's no need to choose!

It's an unusual show structure, but that is indeed how it works, bizarrely enough. Most shows jump the shark when characters leave and get replaced; Doctor Who jumps the shark if they don't. :)

True. But when I was younger and watching this, I didn't have a deep attachment to the actual Doctor. I mostly just thought of him as being Tom Baker and other guys, and was fascinated, but didn't really like him much ( he looked a lot like the illustrations of Digory's Uncle Andrew in Magician's Nephew and I could never quite shake that association). And he was sort of cold, and odd, and British... and then Eccleston came along and it was both love and lust and then was just... gone. So I was... not suspicious, but mourning.

When you've seen more S2, I'd be interested in your reviews of it, because you seem pretty interested in how the text discusses women, and that was my one big disappointment with S2.

I have some DW commentary here (http://laurashapiro.livejournal.com/tag/doctor%20who). The key post for where you are in S2 is this one (http://laurashapiro.livejournal.com/160072.html), but all spoilers on the Doctor Who tag page are cut-tagged, so have no fear.

I never get tired of talking about this show, so comment away. (:

Hee!!!

Honestly, it's like having two boyfriends that you really really like for entirely different reasons and since you're not going to marry either, there's no need to choose!

Gah, much, much love for 10.

I so very much love the pinstripes and Converse:) I in fact loved the whole scene when he was choosing his wardrobe, and when he was distressed to not be a redhead:)

HE IS IN FACT NOT GINGER. BUT HE DOES IN FACT HAVE A MOLE. SO THAT IS SOMETHING.

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO NOTE THAT WHEN HE PUTS HIS HAND IN HIS POCKETS, HIS JACKET COAT RIDES UP. I AM NOTING THIS IN THE INTEREST OF SCIENCE. I HAVE A VERY SCIENTIFIC MIND.

HIS WARDROBE SELECTION IS EXCELLENT, IS I SUPPOSE WHAT I MEAN. YES.

I am still fairly charmed that 10 has reduced you to the caps lock of enthusiasm and that it hasn't yet waned:)

He also has the very charming reading glasses!!

HE DOES. THEY HELP HIM *SEE.* HE IS THE MOST DELIGHTFULLY EMO DOCTOR THERE EVER COULD BE.

YOU SHOULD WATCH CASANOVA, BUT YOU SHOULD NOT WATCH IT WITH OTHER PEOPLE, BECAUSE WHEN YOU DO, YOU MIGHT COMMENT OUT LOUD THAT YOU WISH THAT HE DIDN'T HAVE TO WEAR BLUE CONTACT LENSES.

"WHAT COLOR ARE HIS EYES?" YOUR FRIEND MIGHT ASK. "THEY ARE BROWN," YOU MIGHT REPLY. AND YOU MIGHT SAY IT WITH A LITTLE SIGH IN YOUR VOICE. AND YOU MIGHT GET A *LOOK.*

I am typically, a big fan of the blue eyes. However, HIS EYES ARE BROWN and should not be forced to change for the whims of the TV:)

HE IS A FINE ACTOR. IT IS NOT HIS FAULT THAT HIS EYES ARE NOT BROWN.
