How the World Looks Today
Mar. 4th, 2008 04:25 pmFollowing an unbelievable Magnetic Fields show? Pretty damn spectacular.
One of the best shows I've seen, hands down, full of wit and humor, sheer musicality and Merritt's tiny, gay, cranky bouzouki playing genius.
Plus, as if they knew I was in the audience, Merritt played Papa Was a Rodeo, which I've been obsessing over like nobody's business for the past month and a half ever since![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
minervacat hooked me up with a cover from Kelly Hogan and The Pine Valley Cosmonauts. And, if that weren't enough, they did both Come Back from San Francisco and ended with Book of Love.
If you don't know who The Magnetic Fields are, go HERE and check out there work, plus Merritt's other projects: The 6ths, Future Bible Heroes, and The Gothic Archies (Merritt and Daniel Handler, aka Lemony Snicket, are long time friends and collaborators. In fact, Handler has played on various albums and guested last night at the show. The Gothic Archies make songs for the Series of Unfortunate Events Books).
Went with a friend of mine, a fellow music geek from my writer's group and we dished about music and our group and he kept saying, "You should write about THAT." when I'd tell him stories. Which is gratifying, but kind of hilarious, plus likely heavily fueled by the tiny but powerful drinks served at the Fonda.
