But I'll be brief. The President can bite me. Tax cuts benefiting who? Exactly? They aren't benefitting me, and yes I did send my taxes in today, at 4:30 once court got out. I believe in the taxation of the public. I believe we have a duty as a populus to pay for our government, our services and the health and well being of each other.
And I get pissed off every year when I have to pay more tax because I don't fall into a bracket that gets any kind of break or write off. I'm single, childless, propertiless, have no stocks, no investment and truth be told no savings. And, I have the maximum amount taken out of my salary for services that I really play little part in, except for roads, and yes I appreciate them, so I just wish that the anti-tax establishment, while preaching the beauty of these cuts, would take another look at those who aren't getting a break. I can afford to pay my taxes, and I bitch and grumble and vow to be civilly disobedient, and I pay them any way, but there are far too many people being hurt by these tax cuts, hurt by the services that aren't being funded so that giant corporations can have off shore tax shelters, and people who can well afford to pay their taxes don't have to.
Perhaps it's the overload of civic duty this week. I'm still jurying. And to make it worse, as an alternate, I will likely have no say in this case, nor will I get to discuss it until it's been deliberated and a verdict is reached, which means at least two more days of sitting in the L.A. Criminal Courts building twiddling my thumbs. I had to sit through the witness and the droning of the attorneys, and can't even talk about the evidence, the witnesses or the crime itself. It's killing me, I tell ya! And it goes against all of my training. I believe highly in a jury of one's peers (although, I will say without question that no one in this jury is technically a peer of the defendent, who lives in a world that I suspect doesn't get a lot of play in the jury pool), but this system is messy, and inefficient, and my frustrations with the manipulations of the law, as well as it's failings ran very deep this week.
Plus, I've missed out on fandom, and will likely miss out more until the middle of next week. I've been working after court, and then teaching, and am burned out and exhausted, and have a little time to myself tonight which I intend on indulging in shamelessly with salad and wine and mindless TV.
I did watch Angel, I did like Angel. And I squealed like a school girl when ( Read more... )
There's fic going on all over the place, and I haven't had time to drop by and say, whoo hoo, great job, but
