Different Strokes
My boss (not my editor, although she too is my boss) just came into my office and said "Burgeoning? Doesn't that have too much sexual innuendo?" The sentence was Burgeoning artists listen intently to their instructor. Some people, minds in the gutter, I tell ya. Hmph:)
He just came back and asked if I wasn't supposed to be writing to a fourth grade reading level. I said I liked the word, that my editor said it was ok, so it was staying. He just raised an eyebrow and left. I need to make sure it's still there when I proof the layout. Sometimes things mysteriously disappear from my copy!

If left to your own devices, I suppose you'd work 'torrid', 'florid' and 'turgid' into seemingly innocent text.

And anyway, how are those ankle biters going to learn any new words unless they read them? *g*
