My boss (not my editor, although she too is my boss) just came into my office and said "Burgeoning? Doesn't that have too much sexual innuendo?" The sentence was Burgeoning artists listen intently to their instructor. Some people, minds in the gutter, I tell ya. Hmph:)

He just came back and asked if I wasn't supposed to be writing to a fourth grade reading level. I said I liked the word, that my editor said it was ok, so it was staying. He just raised an eyebrow and left. I need to make sure it's still there when I proof the layout. Sometimes things mysteriously disappear from my copy!

You'll laugh, but I've never really thought of the word burgeoning as having much sexual inneundo at all (okay, that's not totally true, but... lol).

I did not consider the word to be bursting with sexual innuendo either:) Hence, my amusement. And the beautiful thing is the publication is for adults. Most formal things -newspapers, stuff like that, are tailored to a fourth grade reading level so that they're accesible to people with varying amounts of education. If the pub. actually was for fourth graders, I wouldn't have used that word, but I like to give the adults a little credit:)
