Thanksgiving
Nov. 25th, 2005 12:47 amHappy Thanksgiving to all of my flist.
I'm thankful that my friends and family are safe and happy and here. With both of my parents, the here part as in still around is a double blessing. Frelling parents, producing one child then having health problems at the same time!
I'm thankful for some of my oldest and dearest friends, who were here in my house today, even if they did come by four hours after we'd all gone to bed, bringing the small light of my life who should have bloody well been sleeping but what can you except from a one year old except for excessive adorability and perverse timing. And she freaked out Georgie:) This is both as funny and heartbreaking as it seems. My cat and I are the definition of co-depenedent and eventually he couldn't stand being in self-imposed cat exile anymore and came back to play. The baby offered him mashed potatoes from her spoon. He mostly declined.
I'm equally thankful for newer friends - my Hussies, the inhabitants of
iamsab's home for wayword writers, etc.
I'm thankful to soon be employed.
I'm thankful that whatever is wrong and fucked up with my car, beyond the just replaced breaks, fixed itself in the driveway and will be even more thankful if it waits until after December 15th to happen again.
I'm thankful, as always, for words. For their grace and power, for their absurdity and their draw, for their perversity and play and proof. I'm thankful that they offer me an outlet, offer me a way to shape and shift, that they offer me a place to hide when given by others and a place to dwell when used by myself.
ETA: Looking at all of the very fucked up things the world and its inhabitants does to it's kids, I'm equally thankful for the people I know who are having kids, who have had kids and are doing right by them. I'm fortunate enough to know both new parents and seasoned parents and expectant parents and none of them are people who make me shudder at their contributions. I'm thankful for all that they're doing to bring good people to the world.
